Cytoskeleton:

  1. The cytoskeleton is the network of fibers forming the prokaryotic cells, eukaryotic cells and archaeans.
  2. These fibers in the eukaryotic cells contain a complex mesh of protein filaments and motor proteins which helps in cell movement.
  3. Some of the functions of the cytoskeleton are:
    1. The cytoskeleton gives shape and support to the cell.
    2. It helps in forming the vacuoles.
    3. It holds various cell organelles in place.
    4. It helps in cell division and cell signaling.
    5. It helps in the migration of cell organelles, transportation of vesicles in and out of the cell, etc.
