Open in App
Solution

False fruit:

  1. It is a type of fruit in which the flesh or pulp of the fruit is not completely derived from the ovary.
  2. Instead, it is derived from some adjacent tissues, present at the exterior of the carpel.
  3. It is also known as pseudo fruit or pseudo carp.
  4. Example: Strawberry, pineapple, etc.

A strawberry is considered a false fruit because:

  1. It is not completely derived from the ovary.
  2. Instead, some of its flesh is derived from other parts of the flower like receptacle or the perianth.
  3. A true fruit is the one that is completely derived from the ovary such as mango, kiwi, etc.
