Question

Why tissue culture is called micropropagation?

Open in App
Solution

Tissue culture:

  1. It is a type of propagative method where cells/tissues from the growing parts of organisms are taken and subjected to an artificial medium where they can grow.
  2. This method is beneficial as it can produce a large number of offspring within a very short period of time.
  3. Also, since healthy tissues are taken for growing, the plants are healthy and disease free.

Tissue culture is also called micropropagation because:

  1. Tiny cells or tissues are used for this method.
  2. New plants are propagated with the help of these microscopic cells.
  3. Thus this method is also called micro-propagation.
