Will diatoms kill plants?

Open in App
Solution

Diatoms:

  1. Diatoms are unicellular, photosynthetic algae.
  2. They are found in aquatic habitats.
  3. They serve as food for many aquatic organisms.

Diatoms can kill plants by:

  1. Proliferating in large numbers forms algal bloom.
  2. This can block the light entering the water, thus, inhibiting plants from receiving light.
  3. This can ultimately cause the death of the plant since it can not perform photosynthesis without sunlight.
