0.120kg of copper of specific heat capacity 100calKgoC and at 20oC is heated by a burner for two minutes, which supplies heat energy at a rate of 20 calories/sec. Calculate the final temperature of copper.

Open in App
Solution

m = 0.12kg
s = 100cal/kg/℃
T1 = 20℃
T2 = ?
T = T2T1
Heat supplied by burner
= 20calories/sec
Time heated for = 2 minutes
= 2×60
= 120 seconds.
Total heat received
= Heat per second × time (in seconds)
= 120 ×20
= 2400cal.
Q = msT
2400 = 0.12×100×T
T = 2400Y0.12×100
T = 200
T2T1 = 200
T2-20 = 200
T2 = 200℃.
