Given that,
Energy supplied to block of ice (H)=0.93 watt-hour
Mass of ice (m)=10 gm
Mechanical equivalent of heat, J=4.18 J/cal
We know that,
1 watt-hour=3600 J
Energy supplied (H)=0.93×3600 J=3348 J ....(1)
We know that, heat required to just melt m gms of ice at 0C is given by
Q=m×L
Thus,
Heat required to just melt 10 gms of ice
Q=10×80×4.18=3344 J ......(2)
From (1) and (2), since H>Q,
we can conclude that the block of ice will melt completely.
Thus, option (a) is the correct answer.
