Question

1.0mole of dinitrogen gas at STP condition was put into a vessel of volume 0.025m cube maintained at the temperature of 50degree c. What is the pressure of the gas in the vessel

Open in App
Solution

Ideal gas equation is

PV = nRT

Where; P = pressure of the gas,

V = volume of the gas,

R = gas constant = 0.0821 L atm / (Kmol)

n = no. of moles of gas present

T = Absolute temperature

STP (standard temperature and pressure) represents conventional conditions established by IUPAC with T = 273.15 K,

volume 0.025m cube =25 L

p=nrt/v
=1* 0.0821 * 273.15 / 25

=0.8970 atm
