Question

¼ of the green box is on the blue box, and ½ of the green box is on the violet and the orange boxes. If all the boxes except for the green one are cubical and the same size, what is the length of the green box?

Solution

Let the total length of the green box be x inches.

Then x/4 inches of the green box is on the blue box.

And x/2 inches of the green box is on the violet and the orange boxes combined.

Length of the part of the green box not lying any box
= x - (x/2 + x/4)
= x/4 inches

This length x/4 is given to be 75 inches.

So,
x/4 = 75
Multiplying by 4 on both sides, we get
x = 75×4
= 300 inches.

Hence, the length of the green box = 300 inches.

Option b will be the correct answer.
