  1. The nature of the solution is either neutral or basic. As an acid changes the colour of blue litmus to red. Blue litmus remains blue in basic solution.

  2. Factory wastes are acidic in nature which may cause harm to aquatic life. Hence, they are neutralised by using a base before disposing it into the water bodies.
