Question

1. Calculate the volume occupied by 7 grams of hydrogen gas at 27 degree Celsius and 750 mm of Hg pressure.

Open in App
Solution

Moles of hydrogen = Weight / Molar mass
= 7 g / (2 g/mol)
= 3.5 mol

Pressure = 750 mm Hg
= (750/760) atm ………[∵ 1 atm = 760 mm Hg]
= 75/76 atm

From ideal gas equation
V = nRT/P
= (3.5 mol × 0.0821 atm.L / (mol K) × 300 K) / (75/76 atm)
= 87.3544 liters

Volume occupied by gas is 87.3544 liters
