Coffee powder is a mixture of a number of compounds. It contains caffeine which is a weak base. However, it also contains many other compounds some of which are acidic. These include citric acid, malic acid, lactic acid, quinic acid, caffeic acid, pyruvic acid and a few more. The relative amounts of these substances in a sample of coffee depends upon the source of coffee and the method used for brewing. However, in general the coffee powder as well as drinking coffee both are acidic due to the presence of so many acidic compounds in the coffee.
