Question

1 g ice of 0C and 1g vapour at 100C are mixed together. Assuming no heat loss, what will be the final temperature of the mixture?

Open in App
Solution

Let final temperature be T
Heat lost by vapour = Heat gained by ice
mlv+ms(100T)=mlf+ms(T0)1.530cal/g+1.1cal/g°C×(100T)=1.80cal/g+1.1cal/g°C×T530+100T=80+T550=2TT=275°C
T cannot be greater than 100°C
thereforT=100°C
