1. Fold, silver, diamond and platinum jewellery present at home should never be given to any store or any unknown person to be cleaned. This is because they might dissolve some amount of metal in the solution by using acid.
So, to clean use simple home remedies, such as use lemon juice to remove blackening, use detergents etc.

2. Precautions to be made while buying:

(a) Gold: Notice the following 5 points while buying gold ornaments:
(1) BIS logo (2) Carat (3) Hallmark centre (4) Jeweller logo (5) Manufacturing year

(b) Silver, Diamond and Platinum : Same as above.
