Dear student,
Q1. The properties of metals are -
i) metals are solids having a shiny lustre
ii) metals are malleable and ductile
iii) Metals are sonorous that is they produce sound when struck
iv) Metals are electropositive
v) Metals easily loose electrons and so act as good reducing agents
Q2. Five uses of metals
i) Metals are used to make various utensils such as copper, Aluminium etc
ii) Metals are used to make gong's in bell such as tin
iii) Metals are used to make electric wires because of high electrical conductivity and ductility such as copper , Aluminium
iv) Some metals are used to jewellery such as gold , silver
v) Metals are used for making various alloys which have varied uses such as alloys of Copper -brass, bronze , alloys of Fe - steel
Five uses of non-metals
i) non-metals such as O is a supporter of combustion , P having a low ignition temperature is used in safety matches.
ii) N is used in Fertilizers
iii) C and its allotropes find a variety of uses such as Graphite used for making leads in pencils and diamond used for cutting glass and also used in jewellry.
iv) Cl is used as bleaching agent
v) S is used for vulcanization of rubber and also in making compounds such as H2SO4 , CS2 etc
