Question

1. The cost of a notebook is twice the cost of a pen. Write a linear equation in two variables to represent the statement. Also state whether for any solutions of this equation can X and Y take negative values.

2. Write the linear equation in two variables in the form as+by+c=0 by using the given values of a, b and c.

i. a=0, b=-3, c=1/6

ii. a=1/2, b=-1/3, c=1/6

Solution

let the cost of the notebook = x
let the cost of the pen = y
according to question x = 2y.
for any solution x and y cant take negative values as cost is never negative.

pu the values of a, b and c in the equation
as+ by +c =0
1. -3y +1/6 =0
-18y + 1 =0
2. s/2 -y/3 +1/6 = 0
3s-2y+1 = 0
