(1) Difference between sperms and eggs of humans:
The major genetic differences is in sex chromosome of sperm (male gamete) and egg( female gamete). Sperm has Y sex chromosome, while egg has X sex chromosome. There is also a significant difference between the size, shape, metabolic activity, cytoplasm content and motility. Human eggs are much larger than sperms and are highly metabolically active cells.
Importance of the difference:
The difference in the sperm and egg cells maintains the continuity of the species generation after generation by the process of reproduction.
(2) Difference between fertilisation and germination:
FERTILISATION | GERMINATION |
Fertilisation occurs when the sperm cells fuses with the egg. | Germination is the growth of the root through the seed coat. |
Fertilised ovule becomes seed. | When a seed lands on a place having favourable conditions, it starts to germinate. |
Fertilisation can takes place in both plants and animals. | Germination is not possible in animals. |
