Solution

a) Sound waves need material medium to travel. It can be solid, liquid, gas.

But on moon there is no atmosphere to carry the sound waves. So we can't talk on Moon
We can use radio transmissions to talk to each other.Astronauts use it.

b) A sonic boom is a loud sound kind of like an explosion. It's caused by shock waves created by any object that travels through the air faster than the speed of sound. Sonic booms create huge amounts of sound energy. When an object moves through the air, it makes pressure waves in front of and behind it.
These shock waves carry a large amount of energy. The air pressure variation associated this type of shock waves produces a very sharp and loud sound called the "sonic boom". Theshock waves produced by a supersonic aircraft have enough energy to shatter glass and even damage buildings.
