(a) both were kept in the cupboard

(b) both were kept under the fan.

In which case evaporation will be faster?

(1) In a test tube or in a china dish.

(2 In the cupboard or under the fan.

Solution

Evaporation: It is defined as the type of vaporization which occurs on the surface of the liquid. In this liquid state of matter is going to convert into gases.

(1) Rate of evaporation will be faster in the case of the china dishes.

  • The rate of evaporation depends upon the surface area.
  • More the surface area more will be the rate of evaporation.
  • Water in a china dish has more surface area in comparison to a test tube.
  • So, the rate of evaporation will be faster in the case of china dishes.

(2) Rate of evaporation will be faster in the case of the fan.

  • Movement of vapors in the air increases because of the fan.
  • Therefore more water can be evaporated.
  • This results in an increase in the rate of evaporation.

(3) Evaporation decreases.

  • On rainy days, humidity in the environment increases.
  • Humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air.
  • Because of the increase in water vapor in the environment rate of evaporation decreases.
  • The environment can not acquire more water vapor because of humidity.
