10 students of class X took part in a Mathematics quiz. If the number of girls is 4 more than the number of boys, find the number of boys and girls who took part in the quiz. [3 MARKS]

Let the number of boys be $x$ & girls be $y$.

According to the given condition,

$x+y=10\dots \dots \left(i\right)$

$y-x=4\dots \dots \left(ii\right)$

Solving (i) & (ii) we get ,

$x=10-y$ [From (i)]

Substituting value of x in (ii)

$y-x=4$

$\Rightarrow y-10+y=4$

$\Rightarrow y=7$

Now, $x=10-y$

$x=10-7\Rightarrow x=3$

$\therefore y=7,x=3$

$\therefore$ The number of boys is 3 and number of girls is 7.
