Question

100 mL of 0.2 N HNO3 at 25 oC was mixed with 100 mL of 0.2 N NaOH for neutrilization at the same temperature. The final temperature was recorded to be 26.37 oC. Calculate the heat of neutrilization (in~kcal) of HNO3 with NaOH.

Solution

Q=msΔt=mass of sol. (due to H2O)×sp. heat (of H2O)×1.37
=200×1×1.37=274 cal.
Meq of acid = Meq of base =100×0.2=20

Heat of neutrilization =Q×100020=274×100020=13.7 kcal
