Let Abe the set of students who opted Mathematics and B be the set of students who opted Biology.

Given : n(A)=100,n(B)=90,and n(AB)=170

We know that n(AB)=n(A)+n(B)n(AB)
n(AB)=n(A)+n(B)n(AB)
Hence, n(AB)=100+90170
= 20
