Molecular weight (or) mass of oxygen =32
Molecular weight (or) mass of ozone =48
Volume of ozonised oxygen =1120 ml
Assume volume of oxygen =x ml
volume of ozone =1120−x ml
at STP (standard temperature and pressure).
Weight of x ml of O2=32x22400
weight of 1120−x ml of O3=48(1120−x)22400
hence, 32x22400+48(1120−x)22400=1.76
⇒x=1433616=896 ml.
∴ Reduction in volume on passing the mixture through alkaline pyrogallol solution is 896 ml.
