Question

126 l milk is stored in 14 containers of 9 l. if 10 l is wasted while pouring all the milk in 4 l containers. find the extra no.of containers required?

Open in App
Solution

10 litres of milk out of the total 126 litres are wasted while pouring.
Hence, milk left = 126 - 10 =116

If the milk is poured into 4 litre containers,
no of 4 litre containers required = Amount of milk / Amount of milk in one container

= 116 / 4
= 29

Hence 29 containers of 4 litre are required.

Assuming that 14 of the previous containers are made use of, number of extra containers needed = 29 - 14 = 15

Note: The answer is 15 because we assume that 14 containers mentioned in the qn are made use of. If only 4 litre containers can be used, the total number of containers needed would be 29 itself. ( because the 14 in the question given are 9 litre containers)

Hope this helps :)
