Question

17x2-8x+1=0

Open in App
Solution

Given: 17x2 - 8x + 1 = 0
Comparing the given equation with the general form of the quadratic equation ax2 + bx + c = 0, we get a = 17, b =-8 and c = 1.

Substituting these values in α= -b + b2 - 4ac2a and β = -b - b2 - 4ac2a, we get:

α=8 + 64 - 4×17×12×17 and β = 8 - 64 - 4×17 ×12×17

α = 8 + 64 - 6834 and β = 8 - 64 - 6834

α = 8 + -434 and β = 8 - -434

α = 8 + 4i234 and β= 8 - 4i234

α = 8 + 2i34 and β = 8 - 2i34

α = 4 + i17 and β= 4 - i17

α = 417 + 117i and β= 417 - 117i

Hence, the roots of the equation are 417 ± 117i.
