2.2 cubic dm of brass is to be drawn into a cylindrical wire 0.25 cm in diameter. Find the length of the wire.
Volume of brass =2.2 cu.dm
=2.2×10×10×10=2200 cm3 [∵1 dm=10 cm]
Diameter of wire =0.25 cm
∴ Radius (r)=0.252=0.125 cm
Let ′h′ be the length of wire, then
Volume of the wire =πr2h
∴πr2h=2200 [∵ Volume of the wire = Volume of the brass]
⇒227×(0.125)2×h=2200
⇒h=2200×722×0.125×0.125 cm
⇒h=2200×7×1000×100022×125×125 cm
⇒h=44800 cm=44800100 m=448 m
∴ Length of wire =448 m
