2.46 g of sodium hydroxide (molar mass $=$ 40) are dissolved in water and the solution is made to 100 cm $^{3}$ in a volumetric flask. Calculate the molarity (in mol/L) of the solution.

Amount of NaOH $=$ 2.46 g
Volume of solution $= 100 c m^{3}$
Moles of NaOH $= \frac{M a s s o f N a O H}{M o l a r m a s s}$
$= \frac{2.46 g}{40 g m o l^{- 1}}$
$= 0.0615 m o l$ .
Molarity $= \frac{M o l e s o f N a O H}{V o l u m e o f s o l u t i o n} \times 1000$
$= \frac{0.0615 m o l}{100 m L} \times 1000 m L L^{- 1}$
$= 0.615 m o l L^{- 1}$
$= 0.615 m o l L^{- 1}$
or $= 0.615 M$
