Ultraviolet rays(UV) are harmful rays from the sun
UV light is powerful enough to disrupt chemical bonds. UV photons can produce ionization, which is the separation of electrons from atoms, due to their higher energy.
UV rays that are protected damage the DNA in skin cells, causing genetic abnormalities that can lead to skin cancer (as well as premature ageing.)
