Question

20% N2O4, molecules are dissociated in a sample of gas at 27oC and 1 atm. Calculate the density of the equilibrium mixture.

Open in App
Solution

N2O42NO2
Initially 1mol 0mol
At eqm 10.2 0.4
Molecular mass of the mixture=[nN2O4×MN2O4]+[nNO2×MNO2][nN2O4+nNO2]
=0.8×92+0.4×460.8+0.4=76.66g/mol
Ideal gas equation= PV=nRT
So, PV=mMRT or mv=P×MRT
Thus density= d=mv=1atm×76.66g/mol300K×0.08211litatm/Kmol
=3.1162g/lit .
