Solution

The temperature at which a liquid boils and changes rapidly into a gas at atmospheric pressure is called the boiling point of the liquid.

  • The boiling point of a liquid is the temperature at which the vapor pressure of the liquid is equal to the standard sea-level atmospheric pressure (760 mm).
  • During the conversion of liquid into gases, the liquid state changes to the vapor state, therefore for this conversion, vapor pressure should be equal to atmospheric pressure.

Therefore, the temperature at which a liquid boils and changes rapidly into a gas at atmospheric pressure is called the boiling point of the liquid.
