Question

25 g of Na2CO3 is dissolved in enough water to make 250 ml solution . if Na2CO3 dissociates completely molar concentration of Na+ and CO3 2- carbonate ions are ?

Solution

No of moles of Na+ = 2× no of mole of Na2CO3 and no of moles of CO3-2= no of mole of Na2CO3. Here no of moles of Na2CO3 is 25/106. So molarity of Na+= 2× (25/106)×1000/250= 200/106= 100/53. Similarly molarity of CO3-2= (25/106)×1000/250= 100/106= 50/53.
