Let x be the shortest side of the triangle. Then, length of longest side is 3x. And length of the third side is ( 3x−2 ).

The formula used to calculate perimeter of triangle is,

Perimeter=Sum of three sides =x+3x+( 3x−2 ) =7x−2

It is given that the perimeter of the triangle is at least 61cm, therefore the equation becomes,

7x−2≥61 7x≥63 x≥9

Thus, the minimum length of shortest side is 9 cm.
