Question

2At a certain temperature following reaction have the equilibrium constant as shown below , S+O2=SO2 kc= 5x1052 , 2S+3O2=2SO3 Kc=1029 What is the equilibrium constant Kcfor the reaction at the same temperature? 2SO2+ O2=2SO3

Solution

Dear Hardee Shah,

For reaction, S + O2 SO2; Kc1 = [SO2][S] [O2]=5×1052Similarly For reaction, 2S + 3O2 2SO3; Kc2 = [SO3]2[S]2 [O2]3=1029So for 2SO2 +O22SO3Kc3 = [SO3]2[SO2]2 [O2]=Kc2 Kc12=1029[5×1052]2Kc3 =4 ×10-77
