Question

2L of 0.5N NaOH solution is mixed with 1L of 1M KOH solution. The molarity of hydroxide ions in the resulting solution will be?

Open in App
Solution

For NaOH normality = molarity as gram equivalent weight = weight as no of OH- ions in dissociation of NaOH is 1. normality= equivalent moles/volume. NaOH solution thus has .5moles in one litre. thus 1mole in 2L solution. KOH soultion has 1 mole in 1 litre thus when mixed total volume is 3L(2+1) and total moles of OH is 1+1=2moles. thus molarity of hydroxide i resulting solution is 2/3 = 0.66M
