$Dividend = 2 x^{3} - 3 x^{2} + 4 x + 2 Index form = 2 x^{3} - 3 x^{2} + 4 x + 2 Coefficient form = (2, - 3, 4, 2) Comparing the divisor x - 1 with x - a, we get a = 1$

$Now, quotient in coefficient form = (2, - 1, 3) ∴ Quotient = 2 x^{2} - x + 3 in the variable x Remainder = 5 ∴ 2 x^{3} - 3 x^{2} + 4 x + 2 = (x - 1) (2 x^{2} - x + 3) + 5$
