3. Give two examples of steps involved in producing wool.

  • Production of wool involves shearing, scouring, grading and sorting, carding and combing, spinning and dyeing. Some of them are explained as follows:

(i) Shearing: The process of removal of fleece from the sheep is called shearing.

(ii) Scouring: The process of removing impurities from sheared wool is called scouring.

(iii) Drying: The wool is dried in dryers or in a warm dry place after rinsing.

(iv) Carding: The process of converting tangled wool into even, uniform, smooth strands is called carding.
