Given,
30 meters of cloth costs ₹960.

We know that lesser length of the cloth , lesser will be the cost.

So, Length of the cloth(x)Cost(y)
x1y1 = x2y2

Given,
x1 = 30 meters
y1 = 960
y2 = 640
and x2 = length of cloth
x2 = x1 × y2y1
x2 = 30 × 640960 = 20

Hence, the person bought 20 meters of the cloth.
