Solution

The correct option is A 87.5% Mg and 12.5% MgO
Total mass of Mg + MgO=320mg
As per the reaction,
MgO + 2HCl MgCl2+ H2O
Here, Atomic weight of MgO is 40gm and Atomic weight of HCl is 73gm.
20ml of 0.1M HCl contains 0.073gm of HCl
Therefore, 73gm of HCl combines with 40gm of MgO
0.073gm of HCl will combine with =40×0.07373=0.04g=40mg
Amount of Mg = 320-40=280mg
Amount of MgO = 40mg
Percentage of Mg = 280×100320=87.5%
Percentage of MgO = 40×100320=12.5%
