Solution

  • During burning of candle, carbon dioxide (CO2) and water vapours (H2O) are produced in the form of water vapours.
  • When an inverted glass jar is placed over a burning candle, the vapours get collected in the inverted jar.
  • When the inverted jar is placed in a trough of water, it is observed that the level of water rises after some time.
  • This indicates that Carbon dioxide and vapours formed during burning gets dissolved in water and increases the level of water.
