35 What is the principle of threshing?
Threshing is a separating procedure based on the fact that the stalks of the crops and the chaff are soft materials, whilst the grains are extremely hard. Stock and chaff can be split into pieces when beaten because they are soft, but the grains are unaffected.
The principle of threshing is as follows:
1. Crops are pounded or impacted, and grains are separated from panicles, cobs, or pods.
2. The crop mass passes through a gap between the drum and the concave, causing wear or friction. This helps to distinguish grains from panicles.
