Question

360 g glucose [C6H12O6] is given.

a) How many molecules are there in the sample ?

b) What is the total number of atoms in the sample? (Hints: Molecular mass C6H12O6 = 180)

Open in App
Solution

a) GMM of C6H12O6 = 180 g
Number of moles in 360g glucose (n) = 360g180g= 2
Number of molecules = n × NA
= 2 × 6.022×1023
= 12.022 × 1023 molecules

b) Total number of atoms
= No of molecules ×Atomicity
= 2 × 6.022×1023 × 24
= 289.056 ×1023atoms
(1 molecule of glucose (C6H12O6 ) contains 24 atoms)
