Dear Student,
Here's how the distribution pattern of railway network in the country has been largely influenced by physiographic, economic and administrative factors :
1. The northern plains have rich agricultural resources , high population density and vast level lands which provides the most favourable condition for the growth of railway network.
2. Railway tracts are laid through low hills, gaps or tunnels in the hilly terrains of the peninsular region of India.
3.Due to sparse population and lack of economic opportunities, the Himalayan mountainous regions too are unfavourable for the construction of railway lines .
4. Regions like the sandy plains in western Rajasthan , forested tracks of Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Odisha and Jharkhand and swamps of Gujarat are also very difficult for the construction of railway tracks.
Regards.
