40% of the population of a town are men and 39% are women. Find the number of men if number of children in the town is 12600.

Let the total no. Of population of the town be x.
40%of the population are men=40x/100
39% of the population are women=39x/100
Total number of women and men =40x/100+39x/100=79x/100
Therefore the remaining are children =x-79x/100=21x/100
According to question,
21x/100=12600
x=1260000/21
:.(men) 40x/100=(40/100)×1260000/21=24000
