Solution

When an empty glass bottle is inverted into a vessel, containing water, the water doesn't enter the glass bottle because of the air present in the bottle.

  • The bottle which is empty is actually filled with air. And because air takes up space when an empty glass bottle is inverted and inserted into a trough filled with water, the air is trapped within and it is no anyway for air to escape out.
  • Water cannot enter since the space is occupied by air, but when the bottle tilts, the air escapes and bubbles form, filling the empty space inside the bottom with water.
