Question

43. Why do solids have high density?

Open in App
Solution

  • Density: The density of a substance is defined as the mass of that substance per unit volume.
  • As we know, in the case of solids, the intermolecular force of attraction is maximum as compared to liquids and gases.
  • Due to the strong intermolecular force of attraction, particles in solids are closely packed. Therefore, particles in solid have the least intermolecular space between them that making the solid denser compared to liquids and gases.

Hence, solid have high density.
