1. Burning of fossil fuels:

  • Combustion of fossil fuels is one of the largest contributors to carbon dioxide,
  • In industrial cities or metropolitan cities, the burning of oil, natural gases, and coal releases high amounts of carbon dioxide.

2. Respiration by plants and animals:

  • Plants have stomata on their leaves which consume oxygen. This process is called respiration.
  • It releases carbon dioxide.
  • Similarly in humans and animals, respiration is the consumption of oxygen which releases carbon dioxide into the air.
