Solution

  • Cotton plants are used to make cotton wool. Cotton plants are cultivated in fields. They are most commonly grown in areas with black soil and a warm temperature.
  • Cotton bolls are the fruit of cotton plants that are about the size of lemons.
  • The bolls burst open as they mature, revealing seeds coated in cotton fibres. Cotton is hand-picked from the cotton bolls.
  • Combing is used to separate the fibres from the seeds. Cotton ginning is the term for this process.
  • It can be done manually or by machinery.
  • Spinning is the process of creating yam from fibres. Cotton wool fibres are twisted and dragged out of a mass. The fibres are brought together to produce yarn in this way.
  • A simple device used for spinning is a hand spindle called Takli and Charkha.
