Question

4p2 + 7 = 12p

Open in App
Solution

Given: 4p2 + 7 = 12p
4p2 – 12p = –7
On dividing both sides by 4, we get:
p2 – 3p = -74 … (1)
We make L.H.S. a perfect square by using

Third term = 12×coefficient of p2 = 12×-32=-322=94

On adding 9/4 to both sides of equation (1), we get:

p2 -3p + 94 = -74 + 94 p2 - 2×p×32 +322 = -7+94 p - 322 = 24

On taking square root of both sides, we get:

p - 32 =±22 p = 32±22 p = 3±22

Thus, p = 3±22.
