Question

5 Difference between mass and charge

Open in App
Solution

• Mass is the measure of inertia of a body. while, charge is the measure of the. electrical properties of the body.
  • Force acting between two masses can be gravitational or nuclear (force binding the protons and neutrons in nucleus), while forces between two charges can be electrostatic or gravitational.
  • Forces between two masses is always attractive while forces between two charges maybe attractive or repulsive.
  • Mass can never be zero (although the rest mass of a photon and some other sub atomic particles is zero), while charge can be zero (neutrons).
  • Mass of a body depends on the speed of the body at speeds comparable to the speed of light, while charge doesn't depend on velocity.
  • Not all masses have a magnetic field associated with them when they are in motion while a moving charge is always associated with a magnetic field.
