$5$ pens and 6 pencils together cost Rs. $9$ and $3$ pens and $2$ pencils cost Rs. $5$. Find the cost of $1$ pen and $1$ pencil.

Let the cost of pen be 'x' and the cost of pencil be 'y'

$\Rightarrow 5x+6y=9$

$\Rightarrow 3x+2y=5$

From Equation (2) ; $\Rightarrow 2y=5-3x$

Substituting above in equation (1);

$\Rightarrow 5x+15-9x=9$

$\Rightarrow 4x=6$

$\Rightarrow x=\frac{3}{2}$

$\Rightarrow y=\frac{1}{4}$

$\Rightarrow$cost of 1 pen $=x=1.5rs$

$\Rightarrow$cost of 1 pencil $=y=0.25rs$
