Solution

Part 1: Global warming:

Global warming is defined as the gradual increase in the temperature of the earth's surface. The increase in temperature is due to an increase in the levels of gases such as Carbon dioxide(CO2), Methane(CH4), and CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbon).

Part 2: Ways to minimize global warming:

  • Reduction in the use of fossil fuels: Limited use of fossil fuels will minimize global warming. When fossil fuels are burned, they release a large number of harmful gases into the atmosphere which results in global warming.
  • Afforestation: Planting more and more trees is one of the effective ways to minimize or prevent global warming. Plants take Carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) in the presence of sunlight in the process called photosynthesis and release Oxygen (O2) gas.
  • Restricting the use of CFCs: CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbon) when released into the atmosphere destroy the ozone layer and protect us from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays.
  • Use of air filters in factories: It should be made mandatory to install air filters in the chimney in factories that emit harmful gases into the atmosphere.
